PK-8
The Northwood PK-8 campus is a significant element of the Elyria City School District’s master plan, developed by AVG, which aims to enhance educational facilities through the construction of two new elementary schools and three PK-8 campuses. The new facility spans an impressive 131,110 square feet and accommodates separate programs for PK-4 and 5th-8th grades within a single, cohesive structure. Each program is equipped with its own designated entrances and exits, ensuring safe and efficient transitions for students.
Designed with a focus on 21st-century learning, the campus features a dedicated maker space that fosters creativity and hands-on exploration. The layout incorporates flexible classroom spaces that can be easily reconfigured to support various teaching methods and learning styles. Extended Learning Areas (ELAs) provide collaborative environments for group work, while sectional doors and operable walls allow for fluid transitions between spaces. Exposed ceilings and mobile furnishings further enhance the adaptability of the learning environment, facilitating project-based learning and diverse activities.
In recognition of its sustainable design, the project received Gold LEED Certification, underscoring the commitment to environmentally responsible practices and creating a healthy learning environment for students.
