Hamilton – Elyria City School District

Elyria, Ohio

60,206 SF

PK-4

The Hamilton PK-4 facility is a vital component of the Elyria City School District’s comprehensive plan to enhance educational experiences through the development of modern, state-of-the-art facilities. Given the site constraints, various design options were initially considered; however, the district ultimately selected a two-story facility plan that minimizes the overall footprint while maximizing space efficiency.

This innovative design prioritizes 21st-century learning principles by incorporating flexible classrooms and Extended Learning Areas (ELAs) that promote collaboration and project-based learning. The facility features full-view sectional doors and operable walls, allowing for seamless transitions between spaces and facilitating group activities. Exposed ceilings and skylights create a bright, inviting atmosphere that enhances the learning environment, while versatile furnishings support diverse learning styles and various activities, encouraging student engagement and interaction.

In addition to its functional design, the Hamilton PK-4 facility emphasizes sustainability and environmental responsibility, achieving Gold LEED Certification. This certification underscores the commitment to creating a healthy, energy-efficient building that not only meets the educational needs of students but also serves as a model for future school developments within the district.

The AVG team is exceptional to work with, and they truly share in the ownership of the schools they build.
