WILLIAM RAINEY HARPER PK-8

Cleveland Metropolitan School District

Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Client: Cleveland Metropolitan Schools

Size: 55,676sf

Delivery Method: CM at Risk

Completed: August 2018

Scope: New Construction

The William Rainey Harper PK-8 School was part of Segment 7 of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Long-Range Master Plan. Designed by AVG, the new two-story facility replaces the former Harper Elementary School and maximizes a constrained site with a compact footprint, allowing for expanded parking and outdoor play areas. Delivered through the OFCC Accelerated Urban Initiative using the Construction Manager at Risk method, the project reflected a strong partnership with the local community.

The design incorporated flexible extended learning areas, breakout spaces, and environments that support both individual and collaborative learning. Emphasizing sustainability and student well-being, the school integrated daylighting strategies, energy-efficient systems, and was designed to achieve Silver LEED certification.

“From the beginning of our relationship, AVG has demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, creativity, and responsiveness throughout the lifetime of (our) projects. Their team took the time to thoroughly evaluate and fully understand our unique needs, our community’s values, and our joint vision for a learning environment that will serve our students for years to come.”
