The Eastern Heights PK-8 campus is a key component of the Elyria City School District’s comprehensive master plan, designed by AVG, which includes the construction of two new elementary schools and three PK-8 campuses. This project reflects the district’s commitment to modern, sustainable learning environments.
The new 146,192-square-foot facility was built next to the former Eastern Heights Jr. High, which remained operational until its eventual demolition. The school is designed to accommodate separate PK-4 and 5th-8th grade programs, with each group having its own designated entrances and exits to ensure smooth transitions and age-appropriate environments. The design prioritizes flexibility, with adaptable classroom spaces, Extended Learning Areas (ELAs) for collaborative learning, and a dedicated maker space that encourages creativity and hands-on exploration. These versatile spaces allow the school to host a variety of educational activities beyond traditional lessons.
In recognition of its sustainability efforts, the project received Silver LEED Certification, highlighting its energy-efficient systems and eco-friendly design elements.
